Eve of the Solemnity of the Assumption

Prayer vigil from 9:30-10:30 p.m. in the Cathedral church and offering of “symbols,” according to the Byzantine rite.

August 15

Solemnity of the Assumption

6:15 p.m. Descent of the Candlesticks from College Square to “piccarsi” in Town Hall Square.

Route: via Repubblica, via don Minzoni, via S.Satta and Piazza Municipio.

6:30 p.m. Solemn vespers

7 p.m. Eucharistic Concelebration, presided over by His Eminence Msgr. Arrigo Miglio, Diocesan Administrator, with the participation of the Rev. Chapter of the Cathedral and the city Clergy, Civil and Military Authorities present.

8:30 pm : Solemn Procession with the Venerated Simulacrum of the “Koimesis” (Holy Sleeping Virgin).

Preceding in order will be the Banda Musicale Verdi of Iglesias – the Banner of the Association of Candlesticks B.V.Assunta, the Captain of Villa, the Banner of the Royal City of Iglesias, the Herald, the Breviaiuolo, the Camerlengo and the Judge with their respective Paggi – the Candlestick of the University of Villae, preceded by their respective banners, the Candlesticks of the Mountain, of Sancta Chiara, of Mezo, of Fontana, of Castello and of the Corporations ( Gremi ) of the Vinajuoli – Tavernai, of the Workers/Artisans, the religious associations, the Launeddas Players, the Clergy, the Authorities and the people.
